ANKARA - The death toll in bermagnitud 7.2 earthquake in Turkey continues to grow. Turkish Interior Minister stated, the death toll is currently carrying 217 peopleand injured 1090 others.
Turkish Interior Minister Idris Naim Sahin, Monday (24/10/2011), states, as many as100 people were killed in the city of Van and 117 people were killed in the District ofpeas, the Province of Van, while 1090 others were injured.
Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced, the death tollreached 138 and as many as 350 people were injured.
Van is a province in eastern Turkey. Most of the population are Kurds.
The earthquake that occurred on Sunday is the most powerful in Turkey in recent years. Turkey, which is prone to earthquakes, was on some plates the earthquake.In 1999, two strong earthquakes in densely populated areas and industrial areas inthe northwestern part of Turkey has killed as many as 20,000 people.
